Event Recapitulation & Result
At 10:00AM, under overcast skies and a lively northeasterly breeze of 15–17 knots, seven determined crews started their apporoach of the start line for the 2026 COA Lady Challenge Rally. With temperatures at 19.3°C, humidity high at 89%, and the promise of clearing skies later in the day, the conditions were set for a testing and tactical race. High tide was expected at 13:16 (1.7m), adding another element for skippers to factor into their strategy.
Although To The Moon was unfortunately forced to retire early due to engine trouble, the team embodied the true spirit of the event by rejoining for Leg 2 from the safety of the harbour — proving that participation and camaraderie are just as important as podium finishes.
Meanwhile, six boats pressed on into choppy waters and shifting tactics. DBX2 crossed the start line first, heading towards Sung Kong Island in front, closely shadowed by Saphira and Doris. What followed was an exhilarating duel in the opening stretch, with Saphira emerging strongest and steadily asserting control over the fleet.
From there, Saphira delivered a masterclass in confident helming. Choosing an ambitious high line through the Beaufort–Po Toi straight, she executed just two precise tacks to clear the Castle Rock gate before charging toward the finish. DBX2 mirrored the strategy, keeping the pressure on but unable to unsettle Saphira’s dominance at the front.
Behind them, the race was anything but settled. A fierce tactical battle unfolded between Sung Kong and Po Toi, extending into the Beaufort stretch. MoHan and Doris initially followed the leaders’ higher course, but Redeye, starting well behind, mounted an impressive comeback. Opting for a lower angle and a bold “tack-it-through-to-win-it” approach, Redeye executed five determined tacks, overtook both competitors, and surged onto the final leg in third position.
At the finish line, Saphira claimed line honours, followed by DBX2 and Redeye. Harmony embraced the challenging sea state with good humour, enjoying the spirited conditions all the way to the close.
Once safely anchored in Tai Tam Bay — weaving through an enthusiastic wing-foiling contest — the rally transitioned into its creative second act. Brushes replaced winches, and our “Picasseas” and “Van Sails” took to canvas for the drawing competition. With a stunning artistic interpretation of Saphira and Blu sailing through iceberg-dotted waters, Saphira secured victory in this contest as well.
