Race Recap & Result

The annual Dragon Boat Festival Men's Challenge saw teams embark from Shek O Rock at 10am, setting off on the pursuit race towards Round Island. However, light winds meant no boats could pass Bluff Head Light before the 12:30pm deadline. With the low-wind conditions preventing progress, we regretfully cut the sailing rally short. All boats were instructed to start their engines and travel directly to Repulse Bay to drop anchor for the Part 2 swimming. As vessels circled closely in the bay, a carnival atmosphere was developed amongst crews eagerly awaiting their swimmers.

The speedboat took swimmers in two rounds to the beach for starting. After RO giving the start signal, competitors dove into the sea to swim to the finish line as fast as possible. Supporters lined the decks and rails of boats, cheering loudly and waving banners to spur on their team members cutting through the waves. In tightly contested heats, swimmers scrambled powerfully to the finish line. There's one swimmer in each round chose to quit at the midst of the race, though.  Luckily they could support themselves with the Swimming Float until the Speedboat to take them out of water. Great thanks to Ming and the swimming boat. When the final swimmers exited victoriously, their crews erupted in celebration of grit and team spirit overcoming the change in conditions. Though sailing was cut short, the adapted format ensured the competitive sporting drama continued in high spirits for all. Perhaps we might consider to run this again next year, with fine tuning if necessary.
