COA 2025 Regatta Barcolana Info Session

​The Barcolana is a prestigious international sailing regatta organized by the Sailing Club of Barcola and Grignano (Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano). Held annually in the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of October, the Barcolana is renowned as one of the most highly attended sailing events in the world. In February 2019, it earned a place in the Guinness World Records as "the greatest sailing race," with an impressive 2,689 boats and more than 16,000 sailors on the starting line. This historic regatta continues to be a celebrated spectacle, drawing participants and spectators from around the globe.

Event Recapitulation

The COA 2025 Regatta Barcolana Info Session, held at 6:30pm, on Saturday, 15 March 2025, at the Annex Room of RHKYC, was an exceptional evening dedicated to exploring the grandeur of the Barcolana, the world’s largest sailing regatta. We were deeply honored to the speaker, Mr. Dean Bassi, CEO of Barcolana, who traveled to Hong Kong to share invaluable insights into this historic event.

 

Event Highlights

Presentation by Mr. Dean Bassi: Mr. Bassi captivated the audience with a detailed overview of the Barcolana Cup, emphasizing its status as a Guinness World Record-holding spectacle (2,689 boats, 16,000+ sailors in 2019) and its annual celebration in the Gulf of Trieste. Attendees gained a comprehensive understanding of participation opportunities, logistical details, and the regatta’s significance as a global sailing phenomenon.  

 

Audience Engagement

Approximately 40 sailing enthusiasts, including COA members, sailors, and guests, attended the session. The presentation sparked lively discussions, with attendees eager to learn how to join this prestigious event.  

 

Networking & Socializing

Following the informative session, guests adjourned to the RHKYC rooftop bar to enjoy drinks, snacks, and breathtaking harbor views. The relaxed atmosphere fostered camaraderie among sailors, COA members, and international visitors, strengthening connections within the sailing community.
