2024 COA Clearwater Bay BBQ Rally

COA is pleased to report that our 2024 COA Clearwater Bay BBQ Rally was a roaring success! Despite the hot weather, we had an excellent turnout with 12 boats participating in the sailing race. All captains and crews had a fun and exciting time racing from Shek O to the finish line at Clearwater Bay. The afternoon seas provided just enough breeze to make things interesting!

After the action on the waves, we all needed a proper refuel at the BBQ. I will say that we all enjoyed a fantastic BBQ dinner together at the Marina. A total of 71 sailors and their guests joined in the evening festivities. It was great to see everyone continuing the camaraderie and celebration on shore.

Please join me in congratulating all our participants and race winners. I would also like to give a big thank you to Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club in helping us to organize this successful event.

If you want to recap some of the precious moment in the event, can find the photos and videos at: COA's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/COAHK) and IG account (https://www.instagram.com/coahk1967/)

Thank you once again to everyone who came out to make this year's BBQ Rally so memorable. We are already looking forward to next year's event. Hope you all had a wonderful time. Fair winds and following seas until we meet again on the water!

Race Recap & Result

The 2024 Clearwater Bay Rally was undertaken over the weekend of 20 and 21 April. 12 boats participated in the Rally on a new course that started at Shek O Rock and finished at Steep Island with a distance of about 13nm. The course with both closed hauled and reaching legs and coupled with  good sailing conditions on the day with an average wind speed of about 10knots and relatively calm waters provided for a good race that tested both crews and boats. After the race, the boats headed to the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club for overnight mooring and a barbecue party which was attended by well over 70 participants. The event was bless with wonderful weather until after the barbecue when the heavens opened up with thunder, lightening and very heavy rain.  The conditions did not improve the next day with gusts up to 40knots while the boats left for home. With many positive feedback from the Rally, we intend to undertake this Rally as a regular event in our calendar.
