About the regatta
The Barcolana is one of the world’s largest sailing regattas, held every year in early October in Trieste. Open to professional racers and amateur sailors alike, the event brings together thousands of boats of all sizes for a unique mass-start race in the Gulf of Trieste.
What makes Barcolana truly special is its inclusive spirit—elite racing yachts line up alongside family cruisers and first-time participants, all sharing the same start line. The race is accompanied by a week-long festival of maritime events, exhibitions, and celebrations, turning Trieste into a vibrant hub for the global sailing community.
Combining spectacle, competition, and a strong sense of community, the Barcolana is as much a celebration of sailing culture as it is a race.
How can we help
As the official ambassadors of the Barcolana in Hong Kong, the COA is excited to help our members and the wider sailing community take part in one of the world’s largest and most iconic sailing events.
Whether you would like to join the regatta through the official “Ticket To Race” programme or express interest in chartering a Hong Kong team boat, we are here to support you throughout the process.
The Barcolana’s official Ticket To Race programme allows sailors without a boat in Trieste to participate by joining a fully organised race crew. Participants are assigned to competitive teams and sail aboard fully equipped yachts together with an experienced skipper. The package includes the regatta entry, skipper, boat, mooring in the heart of the Barcolana village, and even the option to stay overnight onboard during the event weekend.
The programme is designed to make participation simple and accessible, whether you are an experienced racer or simply looking to experience the excitement of the Barcolana firsthand. Training sessions are organised before the race, with crews assembled according to sailing experience and skill level.
For those interested in representing Hong Kong together, the COA is also exploring the possibility of organising a group charter boat for our members and supporters.
