The COA Championship series is open to COA members only, and is decided from the results obtained by eligible boats competing in a selection of races, which are notified to members before the start of the season. The selected races for the 2004-2005 season are as follows:

ABC Opening Regatta
RHKYC Autumn Regatta
HHYC Port Shelter Regatta
ABC Waglan Series
COA National Day Macau Race(s)
RHKYC China Coast Regatta
RHKYC Around the Island Race
RHKYC Uin-na-mara Series
COA CNY Macau Race(s)
San Fernando Coastal Race
COA Bole Trophy Race
(
if different from SF Coastal Race)
COA Dragon Boat Macau Race(s)
RHKYC Spring Regatta
HHYC Typhoon Series

A boat may compete for the Championship in IRC division or HKPN division but not in both.  A boat may then decide to compete in a different division in any club race, but it is only the results obtained in the nominated division that will be counted for the COA championship results.  If no notification is received as to which division a boat wishes to compete in, the division will be allocated by the COA.

Racing is governed by the sailing instructions issued by the host Club for the race being sailed.

Scoring is based on the Cox-Sprague (1994 modified) scoring system using the placing results published by the organizing authority for each race.

Since all the eligible boats participating in any race or series of races are included in the overall Series results, no signing on or other declaration is required.  Where regattas are included the overall results in the regatta are used for a single result per boat.

Points are weighted according to the type of event, typically Macau Races are weighed 1.5, Regattas at 1.25 and Championship races at 0.75.
